The project sought to address two challenging objectives: to fulfil a highly complex programme with significant functional diversity and to work within an ambiguous, decontextualised urban setting.
A large, robust volume on the northern side of the plot breaks the cold wind from the nearby mountains and conceals several tertiary buildings. The other buildings branch off from this volume: four units laid out from north to south, whose size and location varies depending on their use, ensure a smooth, relaxed transition with the city.
The volumes are linked by an open space, which serves as the formal and functional axis for the project. A porticoed area connects the buildings and protects the paths between them, leading to a large amphitheatre, which bridges the uneven plot and creates an important urban amenity.
